New Zealand’s largest forensic mental health service
Celebrating the completion of E Tū Wairua Hinengaro – Mason Clinic, a new 60‑bed, state‑of‑the‑art forensic mental health facility in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, marking an important milestone for mental health infrastructure in Aotearoa.
Following its official opening on 30 January 2026, E Tū Wairua Hinengaro was formally welcomed by Health NZ, clinicians, project partners, and the community. Replacing four ageing units that were no longer fit for purpose, the new inpatient building brings together shared public entry, communal spaces, and back‑of‑house facilities, and forms the first stage of a long‑term campus masterplan designed to meet future demand.

This project is especially significant as the first state‑of‑the‑art forensic mental health facility — including a high‑security ward — built in Aotearoa since 1999. Its architecture prioritises dignity, connection to nature, clarity of movement, and a calm therapeutic environment, principles that sit at the heart of Klein’s approach to healthcare design.
