In early 2023 Europlan completed a project for Te Whatu Ora Capital and Coast – Te Wao Nui Child Health Service, the new name for Wellington Children’s Hospital.
Te Wao Nui Child Health Service is a new world class and purpose-built children’s hospital that will help save and change young lives.
As a tertiary level hospital, Te Wao Nui will be a lifeline for families across our region. With a large catchment area, the hospital provides exceptionally high-level health care to families in the wider Wellington, Nelson, Marlborough, Whanganui, Hawkes Bay and Manawatu areas.
For the very first time, this project brings a full range of paediatric services together under one roof. This allows for much easier collaboration across different paediatric specialties for those children with complex or multidisciplinary needs. Critically and chronically sick children are referred from the smaller centres for major operations, specialist consultations and when lifesaving emergency and intensive care treatment is required.
Europlan was involved in the fit out of non-clinical furniture solutions for 3 levels of the brand-new building.
In September 2021 Europlan and CCDHB worked together to develop a core range furniture schedule that anyone from the DHB could order from when needing new furniture.
This range is designed to be suitable for a medical office, taking into consideration wipeable fabrics and surfaces and it allows for all users to have a fully ergonomic set up (ergonomic task chair, sit to stand desk, dynamic monitor arm). It is also used to improve procurement consistency and efficiencies across the two DHB’s as each area upgrades to the new core range.
Te Wao Nui, Wellington Children’s Hospital was the first large project at the hospital to order from this schedule.
The delivery program and timeline for Te Wao Nui involved two phases. Phase one was level 2 and 3 and phase two was level 4.
Fabric and finish selection began in early 2022 to confirm stock orders for the first all phases of the project. Delivery dates were confirmed in June with the completion of phase one taking place between July and August 2022 and the completion of phase two, level 4 in March 2023.
The staged nature of the delivery program allowed us to build agility into our project management approach. The project was serviced solely from our Wellington Warehouse facility using Europlan logistics and installation teams, ensuring we met all project milestones.
Te Wao Nui opened its doors to its first patients on the 17th of October 2022.
