We recently completed a project for Allegion in Auckland. Allegion is a global pioneer in seamless access, with its security products and solutions sold in 130 countries and more than 11,000 employees around the world.
When Allegion Auckland looked at its long-term need to bring together office space, warehousing, logistics, and operations, it landed on a purpose-built facility, located on the same site as their original building.
Project planning began in 2017 for this custom build and the team at Europlan in Auckland worked closely with Williams Architects in the early phases of the workspace design.
Our range of Maari Chairs were a pivotal product in the overall colour story, influencing screen fabric and finish selection, ensuring the colour palette complemented the range of products and finishes across the floorplate.
For the project management deliverables, we worked alongside Brendon Simpson, Managing Director of Allegion (New Zealand). It was important we paid close attention to detail and hit all project milestones, including cost, to deliver a space that Brendon and the Allegion team could be really proud of.
The building is positioned to connect with expansive views of the natural environment and harness spectacular amounts of natural light.
The result is a beautiful workspace, and highly functioning operations facility – with plenty of scope for future flex as the needs of the business grow and change.
What have been the biggest changes you’ve seen in your team since moving into the new facility?
There is more collaboration between internal business functions and with our regional teams. The open plan office, supplemented by multiple AV equipped meeting rooms and informal team huddle spaces, supports more efficient and effective team discussions and meetings.
The team displays a huge sense of pride in the new facility, taking every opportunity to show it off to their business acquaintances, family and friends. They feel privileged to be part of this defining event in the history of the New Zealand business.
Has this new space had a positive impact on the overall culture of your workplace and organisation?
We’re very fortunate to have a great company culture and engaged team. The strong visual connections throughout the facility between office and factory work spaces reinforces “one team, one Allegion”.
Could you tell us about some of your highlights during the project life cycle?
It was very rewarding working with a talented and passionate group of architects and design consultants to create a bespoke building with “spirit” that is a show piece for the construction industry.
The internal fitout and selection of furniture to dress the building was also exciting. The range of Maari chairs tied a variety of spaces together, from cafeteria to formal meeting rooms, and was key to the overall tone of the building interior.
– Brendon Simpson is the Managing Director of Allegion (New Zealand) Limited.
Europlan is proud to have worked in partnership with Williams Architects and Brendon Simpson at Allegion on this project. As a project team we set out to align the organisational goals and workplace culture of Allegion with an inspiring workspace that performs now, and into the future.
The success of the flexible solution has become evident in how well the space has adapted to social distancing, new people flow and increased safety measures needed during COVID-19.
