A new work style based on an “activity-based working” model.
In September 2020, Department of Corrections went out to tender for furniture supply for their national office site, Mayfair House. A 12,000 Sq M office to house 1,000 staff, requiring over 900 work points.
A project that had been long in the planning, Mayfair House was to be refurbished. This refurbishment allowed the Mayfair House landlord to update the building services including the installation of a new Heating/Ventilating/Air-Conditioning (HVAC) system, new sprinkler system, revamped bathrooms and showers, and the addition of a fourth lift from Ground Level to Level 13.
The refurbishment includes the addition of an internal stairwell, and radically changed floorplans to accommodate a new work style based on an “activity-based working” model, featuring a wider variety of workspaces to suit different work tasks.
Corrections used this opportunity to review its current work environment and design a fit-out that meets the organisational vision of the agency going forward, with a new focus on connectivity, collegiality, and business continuity.
This move provides Corrections opportunity to flex and reconfigure as the department navigates and re-examines its floor plate requirements in a COVID-19 world.

Project Scope
Invitation to Tender went out in September 2020 with submissions required in October 2020. All members of the Government Property Group (GPG) Furniture supply panel were invited to tender for the project.
After a comprehensive evaluation by the Corrections Procurement team, in November 2020 Europlan was awarded contracts for three of the four furniture categories for the Mayfair house fit out.
Furniture selection and ordering was completed in February 2021 and a staged delivery and installation program took place during June to August 2021.
Project Management
Europlan worked closely with the Mayfair House Project team to streamline our project management program to achieve key projects dates and expectations, including scheduling deliveries and installation to work in concurrence with IT deliverables.
A key project team of five Europlan staff provided a responsive and flexible project management approach. The project navigated challenges with delayed construction and completion dates due to Covid-19. Europlan’s agile project management program made it easy to divert logistics and handle storage of furniture in relation to these delays.
This new fit out allows Corrections national office staff and visitors ample opportunity to work at a variety of spaces and to collaborate freely.
Project Outcomes
Prior to the Mayfair House refit, there was a collection of legacy furniture that was inflexible with constrained ergonomic function. The new fit out allowed the introduction of modern and future proofed solutions that exceed ergonomic requirements and provide flexibility to change settings and configurations easily.
This saw Europlan supply over 900 electric sit to stand desks with ergonomic accessories, team storage, meeting tables, leaners, and soft seating booths, with all solutions being delivered to a high standard and within project milestones and agreed budgets.
Corrections officially moved into the refurbished building eight hours prior the Alert Level 4 restrictions in August 2021. Post lockdown the project team are looking forward to nurturing the staff along their journey of adjusting to the new ways of working presented to them in the refreshed space.
This new fit out allows Corrections national office staff and visitors ample opportunity to work at a variety of spaces and to collaborate freely.
The feedback has been that Mayfair House staff and visitors are extremely happy with the furniture, the installation and the after sales support.
