The Earthquake Commission (EQC) in Christchurch were embarking on a project to move the majority of their Canterbury based team into one building and office in the central city, for a more efficient and collaborative team footprint.
The project gave EQC the opportunity to modernise workspaces and further embrace technology, which required procuring new furniture solutions. They invited all suppliers from the Government Property Group (GPG) panel to submit proposals for the supply and delivery to the building.
Europlan was successful in securing the bid for the workstations, desk screens and above desk power.
We initially tendered for the project with an expected delivery of mid-October 2021. We were working with a project lead time of 12 weeks, capacity to supply a completed fit out within this time frame was a critical component to us winning the project.

Project Scope
Europlan’s well managed stocking program and business continuity practices ensured that we were able to supply most products from our normal stock holdings. This provided EQC with the confidence that we could supply the furniture and have it installed comfortably within the required timeframes.
The EQC project team planned key milestones to allow for access to the building 2 weeks prior to the move in date. This gave our installation team a clear run to complete the delivery and install of all furniture for the fit out.
Project Outcomes
Timings of the project were impacted by building delays and a lockdown, meaning the project went live a month later than initially anticipated. Our warehousing and logistics operation team in Christchurch were able to move through date changes with agility and ensure we hit the new dates for
EQC. The product for the project was stored in our Christchurch Warehouse so we had complete flexibility around what could be delivered and when.
Our Project Manager worked closely with EQC and the installation team to ensure that our product was on site using a phased approach which enabled us to install the product as space became available and work around other trades on site.
Post Occupancy
The new space is light and fresh, and the solutions supplied have given EQC a future proofed workspace that can flex and move as the needs of their organisation change.
