A future-proofed, modular approach to provide a space that will continue to perform.
Europlan was invited to tender for the St David II Building for the supply of office, training, public and meeting space as part of the large fit out of the building. The redeveloped space was to house the newly formed Shared Services Division including Ask Otago Staff, Functional HR Team and Student Lifecycle Department.
The University of Otago awarded Europlan sole supply of the furniture in the building which was across 4 levels. We worked with the University on space planning, product specification, areas for cost saving and provided advice around fabrics and finishes.

Project Planning
We worked closely with the Project Management Team from University of Otago around product selection including fabrics and finishes that would suit the environment. We spaced planned areas to show ideas around how the spaces could be used and custom made products to fit in particular spaces.
The future proofed modular systems we proposed and supplied gave peace of mind to the University. We’ve supplied a platform that allows for future changes and ensures the space continues to perform.
Project Milestones
Our Project Management Team work closely with key stakeholders from the University and the Construction Site Manager due to the building being delayed for a couple of months. We made the decision to consolidate all products locally off site so we could deliver in stages at short notice as the construction progress allowed.
Europlan original plan in conjunction with the University was to deliver containers direct to site, but due to the methodical and careful management of our Project and Supply Team we were able to easily change that to delivering in crates via trucks due to the site restrictions.
The requirement by the University was for us to start the installation whilst construction work was still ongoing. Our Project Manager led our installation team and worked closely with the Construction Manager to ensure all risks were identified and that all health and safety requirements were adhered to.
Future Proofing
Fixed Height Desks were specified in the tender with a view to eventually integrating sit to stand throughout the Campus, with the option of taking advantage of Europlan’s take back programme.
Since the completion of the project we have started integrating sit to stand as requirements as budget allows.
We work in partnership with the University to future proof all of their spaces in a similar way. Already the University has taken advantage of our buy back scheme where they have upgraded to sit to stand desks in some areas and we have credited the fixed height desk parts and brought them back into our stocking program.
